Metabolite Identification
Common NameGlobosuxanthone A
DescriptionGlobosuxanthone A is a xanthone, a class of polyphenolic compounds characterized by a dibenzopyranone structure. This metabolite has been identified through spectroscopic techniques and is notable for its significant biological activities. Globosuxanthone A exhibits potent antifungal properties, demonstrating inhibitory effects against various fungal pathogens, including Fusarium graminearum, Fusarium solani, and Botrytis cinerea, with minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) values of 4, 8, and 16 μg/mL, respectively (PMID:31840197 ). It was isolated from the culture broth of the marine-derived fungus Beauveria bassiana TPU942, which was sourced from a marine sponge in Okinawa (PMID:23342391 ). Additionally, bioassay-guided fractionation of extracts from Chaetomium globosum, a fungus found in the rhizosphere of the Christmas cactus, led to the discovery of globosuxanthone A among other novel compounds (PMID:31840197 ). The structural features and bioactivity of globosuxanthone A suggest its potential for further investigation in the development of antifungal agents and other therapeutic applications.
