Common NameChaetoviridin E
DescriptionChaetoviridin E is a nitrogenated azaphilone, a chemical class characterized by a fused ring structure containing both nitrogen and oxygen atoms. This compound was isolated from the culture of the deep-sea-derived fungus Chaetomium globosum MP4-S01-7, alongside eight new azaphilones and two known compounds, chaetoviridin A and chaetoviridin E itself (PMID:32193933 ). Additionally, Chaetoviridin E is related to other azaphilones, including 7-epi-chaetoviridin E, which was identified in a study involving the fungal strain Chaetomium elatum No. (PMID:22890540 ). The structural elucidation of these compounds, including the absolute configurations of related azaphilones, was achieved through advanced techniques such as circular dichroism and X-ray crystallography (PMID:22890540 ). The biological significance of Chaetoviridin E and its derivatives remains an area of interest, as the unique chemical properties of azaphilones may contribute to various biological activities, potentially including antimicrobial or cytotoxic effects, which are often explored in the context of natural product research.
